Overview
This document provides instructions for managing the iPads used for score input by
members.
This feature consists of a number of iPads connected to a wifi internet connection and
secured to a wall in a bracket.
These iPads can be used by members to:
● See matches scheduled for today if they belong to a team that is playing today
● Enter scores for a match if the scores have not already been entered
iPad requirements
Any 9.7” (Normal sized) Apple iPad model will work. We recommend buying iPad Air 1
st
generation or newer, it can be refurbished or pre-owned. We recommend looking for:
● The screen is unmarked
● The wifi works
● The home button works
● It is not locked i.e. has been disabled for security
We also highly recommend that plastic film screen protectors are applied to the screens as
users can mark the glass, but the film can easily be replaced after time.
We expect the iPads to survive several years of use.
More Info
● Members are given formulated passwords for logging in, they can change these by
speaking with club staff or by logging in to the club website (if this is setup)
● The iPad will automatically log users out if the iPad is left on the same page for more
than 1 minute.
● The screen will fade to black after 30 seconds and can be ‘woken up’ by tapping on
the screen.
● Only games that are scheduled for today will be shown.
● Scores can only be submitted once. If there is a mistake, the league secretary must
be contacted.
● The iPads do not need to be turned off every day.
● It would be a good idea to turn the power off at the wall for the iPads about once a
month and let them run down their battery. But this is not crucial.
Preparing the first iPad
You only need to set up one iPad to begin with. Then the others will be easier as you can
transfer the settings over.
This guide assumes that the iPads are purchased and received in a factory reset state.
On your first iPad, once switched ON, pressing the home button should show the multi-lingual
introduction screen:
If you are not seeing this, then first you must reset the iPad to factory settings.
This guide from Apple covers this process: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201252
Initial setup
Choose language
Select English.
Choose Region
Select United Kingdom.
Quick start
If you see the option for Quick start, use Set Up Manually at the bottom of the screen instead.
Connect to Wifi
If you are not at the club at this time, then you cannot proceed with this process until you are
at the club.
The iPads need to be within the range of the wifi at the club to complete this set up process.
When you can see the club’s wifi network on this screen, select it and enter the password.
IMPORTANT: Changing the club’s wifi router, provider, wifi network name or password will
prevent the iPads from working until the iPads are re-connected to a working wifi network.
Data & privacy
When you have acknowledged the terms, tap Continue.
Touch ID
If the iPad asks about Touch ID, skip this option by using Set Up Touch ID Later
Passcode
A 6-digit code is required. The same code will be used for the other iPads you set up later.
IMPORTANT: This code should not be the club’s phone number or a personal PIN, it is better
if 6 random numbers are chosen. This code, along with the login and password created in a
later step should be written down and stored safely away from members.
Apps & Data
Choose Set Up as New iPad.
Apple ID
Select Forgot password or don’t have an Apple ID?
Select Create a free Apple ID:
Date of birth
Enter a date of birth, write it down along with the Passcode. This doesn’t need to be a

Name
Enter a First and Last name, this can be the club manager’s name.
Email address
Select Get a free iCloud email address
Enter a sensible email address pre-fix i.e dolphinbowlsipad
Password
Create a password, this account does not hold sensitive information, and the password
doesn’t protect anything specific.
IMPORTANT: Keep all of the details written safe. Including the Passcode, DOB, password.
We’ll use this to download a required app and backing up the iPads.
Phone number
Set the club’s phone number as the account phone number, and choose the Phone call
option.
The club’s phone will ring and a 6-digit code will be spoken, enter this on the next screen.

button is on the bottom right.

Then go back one page using the Keyboards blue text link:
And switch off all options on the main Keyboards page:
On the bottom option, Enable Dictation, turn this ON then OFF again. It’s a quirk, but is
needed to prevent members activating the microphone.
Install the Kiosk Pro Lite app
This app makes it possible to lock the iPad so the members can only use it for the Score
Input and not other apps or websites..
Go to the App Store app on the iPad’s home screen:
Proceed through the prompts about using the App Store for the first time:
Use the Search on the bottom right.
And type in kiosk pro lite when the keyboard comes up.
You should see Kiosk Pro Lite in the results, select it.
Select Kiosk Browser Lite app by Kiosk Group, Inc which is the top left one on our photo
below but may be positioned differently on your device.

You may need to tap on Get again to start the download.
When the app has downloaded, you’ll find it on the 2nd page of the Home screen. If you are
not on the Home screen, press the home button then swipe over to the 2nd page.
Setting up the kiosk app
When you first open the app, proceed past the prompt(s) and apply the following changes.
Proceed through any standard prompts until you are at the screen below.
And set the Homepage URL to the one we supply by email. Contact the Bowlr Support Team
with a support ticket if you cannot find this.
Set the Show Navigation Bar to OFF.
And set Idle Time Limit to 120 seconds.
Press the home button and return to the Home screen.
Guided Access
To prevent users from using other features of the iPad, you must enable Guided Access
mode on the iPad. This prevents people from exiting the score input screen.
Go to the Settings app then choose General on the left, then Accessibility on the right.
Scroll down to Guided Access to arrive at the screen shown below. Switch ON this feature
using the switch on the top right, which should then look like the photo below.
On the same screen, go to Passcode Settings and enter a passcode.
Caution: It is impossible to recover this code, it doesn’t have to be memorable if you keep the
passwords in a book somewhere, however we can’t help you with recovering the code and
restoring the iPad may lead to support costs.
Afterwards, do not enable Touch ID, leave it disabled
iCloud settings
Go back in Settings go to the Apple ID/iCloud section which is the top option on the left side,
then tap iCloud:
Disable all other iCloud features by tapping on the green switches, they should turn
grey/white.
Some options ask about deleting information, in this case it is safe to select the Delete
option.

to disable
Create an iCloud backup
While still in the iCloud options are, scroll down to Backup and select it:
